Jacket by Hekatoncheires Jacket by Hekatoncheires
This is a functional teapot which I consider surreal by default. It is called the Jacket. It is a teapot manipulated into the form of a straight-jacket. Earthenware, oxides.

This bizarre teapot doesn't rely on glazes to make it worthwhile, but I'm sure you can gather just what makes it so special. Jacket by ~Hekatoncheires ( Suggested by CreativelyStrange and Featured by ohnojaylo )

Oddly shaped teapots have a tendency to be farmhouse-cutesy-flowery. This one just rocks and that's not something I'd ever thought I'd say about a teapot!

Great job.

Everytime I browse my favorites and see this I wish it was sold in stores. I'd totally buy one and make tea all the time.

Wonderful job here! Your work with the folds across the piece are admirable. Just out of curiosity, what type of clay did you use (grey, white, etc.)? This one is most definately a favorite.

Aaah, this is gorgeous! It's good to see some pottery getting recognized on dA. I really love the weight of it, I'd like to hang the handle on my finger...how tall is the pot?

No, I never deliberately replicate a piece. Especially not for the sake of money. I just keep moving on and developing new works.

I did ceramics all last year, and am very sad that my new school doesn't have a program for pottery at all. But, the end of last year, I only focused on creating teapots. Must say, this is incredible. I've seen works like this that truly mimick the folds and nature of fabric, but this is just.. wow. This is really impressive.
